About Shenandoah Acres:
The campground has been open for many years and has went through few different owners over the years. It had been locally family owned for much of this time till last year it was bought by Sun RV Resorts. It is located in Stuarts Draft not far from the intersection of I-81 & I-64 making it convenient location. But the campground is also located right near the Blue Ridge Mountains with quick access to the Parkway and National Forest. Many beautiful places to visit nearby with Charlottesville, Monticello, and endless wineries & breweries.
It is well established as one of the most popular RV parks in the upper Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia. It is constantly mostly full if not full for most of the whole camping season. There is always packs of children running around and golf carts full of happy families roaming the campground. It is known for a wonderful family atmosphere with so much to do without having to leave the campground. Not only a favorite of people visiting the area but local population also.
What it has to offer:
Shenandoah Acres is roughly 130 acres offering tent camping, RV full hookups, and cabin rentals. RV full hookup include 30/50 amp electric, sewer, water, and wifi. Not only is it close to many different places to visit but has many amenities for staying around the campground. These include large swimming lake, campground stores, playgrounds, valleyball, jumping blob, fishing pond, and much more. On top of that, the management of the campground is always throwing events including but not limited to ice cream socials, live music, dances, and holiday events.
Our Most Recent Visit:
We have spent many weekends at Shenandoah Acres over the years. It has been a favorite of my family’s. It is located only 10 minutes from my family’s farm where I store my Jayco 5th Wheel. So it is an easy location for quick weekends of camping for us. Visits have never disappointed us here! This time recently moving away from the local area roughly 1.5 hours away, we came to visit family and friends. Saying my children had a blast is an understatement. They came home this weekend exhausted from all the fun they had!
Our Favorite Site:
I reserved one of the nice pull-through sites as I know it is very close to the amenities which I find important with small children. Any of these pull-through sites if you want to be “in the middle of the action” are the best and are also the biggest and all paved pads for your RV. In particular site G51, which holds my almost 40′ 5th wheel extremely well being pretty level with asphalt pad for parking. Best part about this particular site is how massive of a “green space” area you get compared to others. I was able to throw the football with my son in our campsite! It is pretty standard with full hookups including 30/50amp, water, sewer, and wifi. ONLY THING is no cable but their wifi is very good compared to many campgrounds. We mostly “stream” movies at night or if it rains out via our TiVO 4k Streaming Device.
Being close to amenities is an understatement:
This row of pull-through campsites are right next to the valleyball court, jumping blob, playground, open air covered event space, and more! The picture above is one I took sitting next to my fire ring in my campsite. It allowed my small children to run and enjoy all the fun, but I could relax watching from my campsite. Any parents reading this understands how amazing this is especially when it is just me alone with them. I was able to work on some new modifications to the camper or listen to music with a cold drink the whole day. I will say if you are trying not to be in the “middle of the action,” you are better off getting one of the back-in spots further back in the campground for more peaceful setting.
What there was to do:
The kids enjoyed playing with the massive amounts of children of all ages. They were making friend after friend either jumping on the blob or playing basketball. While I was able to enjoy some relaxation. But after a busy day of playing, we were able to enjoy a nice fire awhile watching the live music and dance party going on that evening. Sadly we had a cold snap this weekend where swimming at the Lake was not the most comfortable thing to do. We decided to pass on it like many of the other people staying as I only saw small groups there at the Lake.
Daddy got some things done!
Since I had such a prime location, I was able to start working on the modifications I had even collecting parts for all winter. I am sure all of you know how that is! You get all these ideas while your camper is in storage for the off-season. I was just ITCHING to start working on them. I will be catching up some of my blog posts on these including: Hot Water Heater Drain Mod, Screen Door Bar Handle, Replacing my 7 Pin Trailer Plug, and enjoying my Brand New Lucid Mattress! You will be seeing those of the next few days as I catch up at home.
Overall Review:
Shenandoah Acres Family Campground is definitely one of my “go to” local campgrounds for weekend visits. Now living further out of the area, it will THE one I will continue to visit a minimum of few times per year. There is always some event or activities going on for the whole family. You can’t beat the amazing atmosphere as my children talk about going back for weeks after our visits. I would HIGHLY suggest anyone in this area of Virginia to plan a visit as you are missing out on this true diamond of a campground.
