Review of Devils Backbone Camp
I have stayed here multiple times in the Full hookup RV sites being it is somewhat “local” to me. It is by far a PERSONAL FAVORITE of mine!! The RV Sites are all huge and level. I actually didn’t even have to use my Anderson levelers last time I went. We always make a reservation at the main eatery at the Brewery every time we go as it is outstanding! If you are there during the main season usually live music & events going on over at the brewery.
This is both a family and “adult” campground. I have gone there with the kids and groups of friends on separate occasions plus a combined trip for my birthday last year. For the kids, there is plenty to do with the large campsite and activity at the brewery. For “adults” there is of course the brewery and many places to eat. Kids and I last time took advantage of the Blue Ridge Park way being close by and went on 2 different hikes including Humpback Rock. We also HIGHLY RECOMMEND checking out the Farmers Market at the Base of Wintergreen Mountain on the weekends for the crafts and food!
It is an absolutely HAVE TO VISIT CAMPGROUND IF YOU ARE IN THE AREA!! There is no better campground in Nelson County, VA. Personally I would say it is one of the top ones in the state of Virginia.
Big Advantages:
- Huge RV sites to fit any RV and anything you want to bring with you.
- Wifi is good enough for live streaming so you don’t have to use your cellphone Mifi Data
- On-site places to eat and drink
- Close to many different “things to do” but completely remote at the same time
- On-site Camp Host that is always willing to help
- Paved roads that are wide for getting in and out of campsites with ease
- HUGE Calendar of Events including live music and festivals
Tips For Your Stay
- Select an EVEN number campsite as the two campsites share a utility post. This ensures you are not running 3 sewer pipes or extensions to your power cable to reach.
- BOOK ahead more than normal. They only have limited number of Full Hookup spots and they are no longer a “hidden secret” so it requires more advanced planning.
- Nelson County is known for poor cellphone service. Plan accordingly!
Make a Reservation:
Making a reservation is extremely easy even though we suggest booking far in advance due to popularity.
You can checkout their website (https://www.dbbrewingcompany.com/camp-at-basecamp/) where they have a very advanced system using Reserve America. This system allows you to even reserve specific campsite you will be camping in, looking at calendars of availability, and etc.
OR
You can give them a call directly to discuss reservations if you prefer that more traditional way.
